Truman H. Vance

Truman H. VanceTruman was born in Texas and grew up in Richland, Washington. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Truman moved to California, working for Aerojet and Pacific Bell. He then entered law enforcement, starting with the California Highway Patrol and ending in the California Secretary of State's Office as senior special investigator in the areas of white collar crime and real estate, immigration and elections fraud. During his 25 years as a peace officer, Truman advocated for law enforcement interests, such as:

  • California Association of Fraud Investigators (President)
  • California Association of Criminal Investigators (Board Member)
  • California Union of Safety Employees (Legislative Director)

While working full-time in law enforcement, Truman attended American River College and California State University, Sacramento, studying accounting. In 1989, he graduated from McGeorge School of Law and retired with 25 years in law enforcement. After two years as a sole practitioner, Truman joined his wife Catherine to form the Law Office of Vance and Vance. The Vances often work their family law cases as a team to give their clients the talents of both. Truman's expertise is in complex financial issues; Catherine's focus is primarily children.

In 2010, the Vances approached colleague John Coyle with a proposal to merge their firms to capitalize on their shared approach to legal disputes.

Catherine Vance

Catherine Vance

Catherine grew up in Michigan, graduating from Albion College in 1976. Moving to California, she earned a Master’s Degree from the University of California and a law degree from McGeorge School of Law. Graduating with honors, Catherine also received American Jurisprudence Awards in Family Law and Legal Research and Writing.

Catherine’s focus is child custody matters and mediated family law cases. She has been a child advocate in one capacity or another for more than 35 years, including work in group homes and facilities for abused children, with teens in trouble with the law, and with organizations devoted to child protection. A former licensed foster parent, Catherine has been entrusted by Family and Juvenile Court judges to represent more than 300 children and teens.

Catherine has also successfully mediated dozens of cases by working with both parties to a family law dispute. This has saved her clients the time, expense and emotional toll of cases dragging through an over-burdened Family Court.

In 2010, the Vances approached colleague John Coyle with a proposal to merge their firms to capitalize on their shared approach to legal disputes:
